Handcrafted Textile Works

Kristina Nichols founded Just A Little Warped in 2021 after decades of work as an artist and a maker.

Utilizing traditional textile techniques, Kristina creates heirloom quality textiles for the body and the home. A weaver since 1994, she creates on a 60”, 20-harness AVL mechanical dobby loom, a 16-harness AVL folding dobby loom, and an 18”, 8-harness Wolf Pup loom. She also is an avid felter, knitter, surface designer and a soft form sculptor. Her focus is on excellent craftsmanship to create pieces that are both beautiful and highly functional.

One of a kind pieces and micro-collections are inspired by colors and textures in nature, or around events and themes that bring people together. With a commitment to sustainability and a focus on natural fibers, all pieces are locally made and utilize “green” practices in their creation.

Slow and intentional.

Each piece is created thread by thread and piece by piece.

Meet Kristina

Artist. Maker. Administrator. Actor. Musician. Dancer. Aerialist. Mother. Wife. Daughter. Serial learner. Jack of all trades, and creator of long to do lists - both for the day, and for life.

My interest in creating started at a young age. From early memories of sewing free form embroidery pictures, to my plastic Fisher Price loom that was a Christmas gift when I was 7, I’ve been creating for as long as I can remember. An interest in costume design is what sparked my more formal training in textiles - beginning with costume work and then getting introduced to weaving and the wide array of other techniques used in fiber arts. My first experience using a floor loom was in 1994, and I have never looked back. I went on to complete a BFA in Fiber Arts from Kansas City Art Institute, and an MA in Arts Administration from Goucher College. Over the years I have shown and sold work across the country, and taught several workshops and courses.

After several years of not pursuing my art in any regular fashion, in 2018 I started bringing it back into practice. Never one to limit my options, I work in a variety of textile techniques - weaving, felting, spinning, surface design, sculpture, embroidery, and pretty much anything else that sparks my interest. I am currently weaving on both a 60”, 20-harness AVL mechanical dobby production loom, and an 18”, 8-harness Wolf Pup. Regionally I have been showing work at the Crooked Tree Summer Arts Fair, the Suttons Bay Art Fair and the Dennos Museum holiday show. Nationally I have participated in the American Craft Made shows in both St. Paul and Baltimore. As an instructor I teach for Interlochen Arts Academy, and will be teaching at North House Folk School starting in August of 2024.
